The Best Experience ever in your Life
How many people can each vehicle accommodate?
Each vehicle can seat 5 people, but we recommend a maximum of 4 people in each vehicle for more comfort.
What sleeping arrangements are available in the vehicles?
Each vehicle has a rooftop tent that sleeps 4 people.
Do I need prior 4x4 driving experience to join the trip?
Prior 4×4 driving experience is not essential as we will give you a brief tutorial upon arrival. We do, however, recommend that you do some research on general 4×4 driving prior to arriving, especially on driving in sand.
No. As is standard with rental vehicles, you will receive the vehicle with a full tank and return it with a full tank at the end of the trip.
The guide vehicle will have a SAT phone for communication from remote areas.
What type of insurance is provided for the trip?
The vehicle that you will be driving and third-party property will be covered by insurance. Personal cover is not included but can be purchased.
Vehicles should be returned in a reasonably clean condition. Excessive dirt or damage may result in additional cleaning or repair fees.
What level of fitness is required for the trip?
We recommend a reasonable level of fitness and mobility to endure some of the rough tracks and long days of driving. This trip is not otherwise physically demanding as any walking required is usually a short distance. There are many days where we do activities outside of the 4x4s and some parks offer walking safaris. These are voluntary.
There is an expectation that you are able to climb up a ladder to the roof top tent. If you are not able to do this, a ground tent can be provided instead.
Are there any health risks associated with the trip?
By participating, you acknowledge that the nature of the trip is adventurous and involves a degree of personal risk. The animals you will encounter are wild animals and NOT domestic animals. You should listen to the instructions from the game ranger at all times.
See the itinerary inclusions for meals that are included. Food supply is normal in both Botswana and Zimbabwe. We will have numerous shopping opportunities to top up provisions. If you have any special dietary requirements, please let us know before you set out on the trip. There will be a few places where we have lunch or dinner in at a fast food place or restaurant. You can order anything you want at these places as you will be paying for your own food there.
No alcohol will be provided at camp but you are free to purchase your own in the local shops.
GENERAL AFRICA HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES
Standards of catering and levels of hygiene in kitchens in African camps are in general very high. Bottled water is always available and salads and ice do not need to be shied away from. Customer service is usually excellent .
However Africa is not subjected to the same ‘health and safety’ regulations that exist in the Canada and the USA. In many areas of hotels and camps, and during activities, rules are more relaxed than they would be in the above countries. In most cases this leads to a richer experience, but we feel that certain things are worth pointing out to give you an idea what to expect:
Steps around camps often do not have handrails and may be uneven. Camp paths are sometimes uneven or slippery and may be unlit at night. In very few places are camps fenced from animals.
Game viewing vehicles will not have seat belts. If the guide is driving faster than you feel comfortable, please ask them to slow down. Lifejackets will be around somewhere, but not necessarily in the boat you are about to go out in. Please ask for them. You are likely to be in a remote inaccessible place without the levels of communication you may be used to (your mobile won’t work and for most people this is a pleasure). Communication with the outside world may be by satellite phone or radio and these will not normally be available for the use of guests.
